OCCH Celebrates 25 Years of Partnerships

July 1, 2014 – On July 1, the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing will mark 25 years investing in the development of affordable housing in communities across Ohio and surrounding areas. OCCH is a nonprofit corporation that works with private and public developers, banks, and local governments to finance construction of new and rehabilitated homes for families, older adults, and people with special needs.

In a little over two decades, OCCH has raised $3 billion resulting in more than 33,500 units of affordable rental housing in 675 developments. OCCH has grown to be the nation's largest locally controlled capital fund dedicated to the development of low-income rental housing with projects in 84 of Ohio's 88 counties and in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana.

"Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing is honored to be the trusted partner of banks and developers to make a real difference in communities and in the lives of our residents," said Hal Keller, OCCH president.

OCCH celebrated its 25th anniversary with more than 700 partners at its annual luncheon this past May. Joseph Hagan, President and CEO of the National Equity Fund, Inc., and first president of OCCH, recognized the organization's accomplishments in its 25-year history.

Not only has OCCH assisted partners in providing affordable housing opportunities to stabilize residents and neighborhoods, they have also created value-added programs to enrich residents' lives.

In 2012, OCCH created the Ohio Capital Impact Corporation to administer its philanthropic activities where OCCH has investments. To date, OCIC has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to community organizations for children's summer camps, job readiness training, financial literacy, and other programs through the Carol Mount Peterson Resident Development Fund. OCCH also recognized several partners through the Awards of Excellence at the annual luncheon. These awards recognize outstanding partners and projects in the OCCH portfolio. Follow this link for a complete listing of award winners.
