Melanie Shapiro, OCCH Compliance Specialist, Receives Esteemed Giles Mitchell Extra Mile Award from the Council for Rural Development and Housing in Ohio (CRHDO)

September 11, 2014 – OCCH is pleased to congratulate Melanie Shapiro as she received the Giles Mitchell Award from the Council for Rural Development and Housing in Ohio (CRHDO) at the 2014 Ohio Rural Housing Conference, a partnership between CRHDO and the USDA Rural Development.

Melanie was honored with this "lifetime achievement" award for her many years of providing training, technical assistance, and regulatory compliance expertise for the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program and Rural Development programs.

Melanie joined OCCH in 2000 and has specialized experience in compliance with HUD Section 8, HOME, Fair Housing and Section 504, and Section 42 regulations. She provides compliance and fair housing training to OCCH partners as well as industry associations, and is active with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency Compliance Advisory Committee and the Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association.

In May of 2004, Melanie joined the Housing Credit Certified Professional Board of Governors as a Technical Advisor. In addition to providing compliance oversight, she directs the OCCH Training Academy and also manages HUD Cooperative Agreements, which provide training and technical assistance to participants in the HOME program. Melanie is certified as an Assisted Housing Manager, Fair Housing Specialist, National Affordable Housing Professional Executive, HOME Program Regulations Specialist, Certified HOME Program Specialist – Rental Housing Compliance, Specialist in Housing Credit Management, and Housing Credit Certified Professional.
